Christina Aguilera - "Keeps Gettin' Better"

Courtesy RCA

The Bottom Line

Christina Aguilera tosses out a stopgap single to preview this fall's greatest hits collection. It all sounds a bit like that. Lyrically, it's a late entry in a crowded field, and the catchy electro-pop vibe isn't enough to make it one of her more memorable efforts.

Listen

Pros

  • Catchy electro-pop vibe
  • Confident vocals

Cons

  • Sounds like a late entry in a crowded field

Description

  • Written by Christina Aguilera and Linda Perry
  • Produced by Linda Perry
  • Released by RCA September 2008

Guide Review - Christina Aguilera - "Keeps Gettin' Better"

There's an instantly engaging electro-pop style here that will catch your attention the first time through. However, the lyrics now sound like a bit of a re-tread of Katy Perry's rising hit "Hot n Cold." Unfortunately, "Keeps Gettin' Better" isn't as witty as Katy Perry or as unashamedly aggressive as Pink. The overall effect feels like an attempt to grab a current trend which is the antithesis of Aguilera's best work.

Production and co-songwriting here is courtesy Linda Perry. Unfortunately, this work is significantly below their achievement on songs such as "Hurt" on the Back to Basics album. The song is a reasonably pleasant diversion, but will not rank with the impressive quality of her best efforts.

If you are a stranger to Christina Aguilera's overall catalog, the greatest hits album due later this fall could be a very worthy purchase. She has more than her fair share of quality hits on her 3 studio albums. This set will be a welcome addition to the Christmas musical gift giving options.

I agree, Member kyle_desjardin

If you listen to the song and watch the music video, you will realize that it sounds very similar to the songs off of Lady GaGa's debut album ""The Fame."" I believe that Aguilera is realizing that she's becoming very faded in the music business and is getting closer to the end of her run. She's becoming desperate.
