The Bottom Line
It has been a very long, slow climb into the pop spotlight for Matt Nathanson. His album Some Mad Hope was released 18 months back in August 2007. This single "Come On Get Higher" first landed in national pop charts in June 2008. Now, it is headed high on the mainstream pop singles chart, and the success is deserved. However, it is a song that slowly grows on you so give it time to settle in and release all of its pleasures as a solid singer-songwriter pop tune.

Guide Review - Matt Nathanson - "Come On Get Higher"
Matt Nathanson's "Come On Get Higher" is the kind of gentle, laidback pop tune that is easy to have get lost in the crush of available music. However, hearing it multiple times there is a resonance that makes the song stand out from much of the pack. There is a gentle erotic edge to the lyrics that will catch attention.
For the overall sound of Matt Nathanson, think of a cousin to John Mayer who likes to listen to the Goo Goo Dolls. Radio programmers who warm up to "Come On Get Higher" will look for other pleasing tunes to play. His next album will determine a lot of Matt Nathanson's staying power. For those who dig a little deeper he does do a mean cover of James' classic "Laid."
