Guide Review - Kelly Osbourne - One Word
3 years ago when Ozzy Osbourne's teenage daughter Kelly Osbourne set out to be a singer, she touched a nerve with a bratty, foul-mouthed personality that perfectly fit with the pop culture sensation that was her family's show The Osbournes. Unfortunately for Kelly, bratty teenager is not an identity that can propel a multi-album career. With this single it's obvious she is looking an identity that is fruitful for an adult pop singer.
"One Word" discards bratty retro punk for a more adult but still 80's retro sound. The smooth, cool, electronic vibe lands somewhere between early 80's Berlin and A Flock Of Seagulls. It is a pleasing sound, and, in a slightly faster form, has hit #1 on the U.S. dance chart.
Although it works for "One Word," it's not clear whether cool and icy is a permanent identity for Kelly Osbourne. The overall feel is that she is still searching. Meanwhile, "One Word" is a pleasing confection with a good chance at pop success.
