Guide Review - Lose Control - Missy Elliott featuring Ciara and Fat Man Scoop (Goldmind)
After the relatively lukewarm reception that greeted her 2003 This Is Not a Test album, Missy Elliott has returned a year and a half later with one of the hottest singles of her career. Building "Lose Control" on a 20+ year old sample from Juan Atkins' pioneer techno group Cybotron, "Misdemeanor" is serious about getting her fans up to dance. This music can make you lose control.
DJ Fat Man Scoop's good-natured rap holds the party together while Missy asserts her powerful presence and Ciara steals the show with a sizzling a capella break. Missy Elliott helped turn Ciara's album Goodies into a smash with a collaborative effort on "1, 2 Step." Here Ciara ably returns the favor.
The party continues in a "Lose Control" video directed by Dave Meyers, veteran of almost 200 videos, and an award winner for Elliott's "Work It." Whether it's Elliott and friends in blue sweats or dancing with Ciara in stunning floor-length white skirts in a stylized juke joint, it's the feast for the eyes like the song "Lose Control" is for the ears.
"Lose Control" has already made the U.S. rap top 10 and U.K. pop top 10. The song is now on its way up to conquer the U.S. pop chart landing at the top of the first week of the About Top 40 Hot 10 chart this week. An top 5 pop placing is predicted, and we can look forward to more where this came from with Elliott's The Cookbook album out July 5th. For now "Get your backs off da wall 'cause Misdemeanor said so!"
