The Bottom Line
Mike Posner will have you from those first finger snaps as they segue into the gentle throb of an electro-pop beat. "Cooler Than Me," with its romantic frustration expressed in honey sweet pop vocals, is a nearly perfect pop record. His sense of melody in the production coupled with real singing skill is reminiscent of the recent emergence of Bruno Mars. Put this on your summer pop playlist now.

Guide Review - Mike Posner - "Cooler Than Me"
Mike Posner will be spending most of his summer on the Warped Tour, but his calling card "Cooler Than Me" has little musical connection to the punk pop and hardcore bands dominating the tour. The song is a thoroughly disarming R&B pop romp with gently seething frustration in the lyrics. It seems the woman in question is wrapped in designer clothes and attitude adding up to probably thinking she's "cooler than me." The clarity of the words and instantly engaging melody line will have you singing along in no time. Or perhaps you will choose to snap your fingers in time to the music.
"Cooler Than Me" will mark the emergence of Mike Posner not only as a singing talent, but also a pop producer with serious skills. Finger snaps, electro-pop beats and even subtle disco percussion all blend seamlessly to give the song broad appeal. Listen to other tracks by Mike Posner and you will find plenty of piano in the mix as well. It is all led by honey sweet vocals.
"Cooler Than Me" joins a growing list of outstanding pop releases for the summer of 2010. It is always possible that a small gem like this can get lost in the shuffle, but "Cooler Than Me" is breaking out on national charts. Look for a full-length Mike Posner to hit stores in late summer or early fall, and keep an eye out for a top new talent.
