The Bottom Line
Nickelback ventured a bit outside their comfort zone for the massive hit single "Photograph", but their new single "Savin' Me" is a retreat directly back into being yet another slight variant on their breakthrough single "How You Remind Me." That's a good thing for Nickelback fans, of which there are plenty, but not likely to hold the attention of the un-initiated.
Listen to "Savin'Me."
Pros
- Musical comfort food for Nickelback fans
Cons
- It's the same old story
Description
- Familiar Nickelback power chords
- Chad Kroeger's arena-filling vocals
- Nice piano outro
Guide Review - Nickelback - Savin' Me
Nickelback represent a familiar story that will be repeated as long as there is something known as pop music. Critics have long heaped negativity on the band for blandness and lack of originality. However, Nickelback continue to prosper and, if anything, add to their core of dedicated fans. Those aforementioned critics watch the spectacle and shake their heads in disbelief at the prosperity of Chad Kroeger and company.
The key to Nickelback's success does not lie in originality or in surprising audiences with something new around every corner. The key to their success is the same as the key to success for Kraft macaroni and cheese in the food world. Nickelback's music is supremely familiar and comforting to their legions of fans. The basic formula has not changed since they helped soothe the nerves of rock fans in the wake of the horrors of September 11, 2001 with the breakthrough hit "How You Remind Me."
Seen in this light, "Savin' Me" is a necessity to add to the collection for any Nickelback fan. However, most serious fans already have the track as a part of the All the Right Reasons album. That leaves fans to turn to radio to request to hear the song over the airwaves, and radio is responding...resoundingly. This is major pop hit single #2 from All the Right Reasons.
