Marvin Gaye's version of "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" is such a towering achievement that many people forget the original Gladys Knight and the Pips performance even though it hit #2 on the pop singles chart. The song was re-introduced for another round of popularity by its powerful inclusion as a theme in the 1980's movie The Big Chill.
