This song was used by the late Sam Cooke in live shows, but he never recorded a studio version. After Cooke's death, Otis Redding didn't want to record it, but he eventually caved into pressure, and it became one of his signature songs. "Try a Little Tenderness" was also Three Dog Night's first top 40 hit.
