Audi - Hanni El Khatib "Can't Win 'Em All"
Audi titles their Super Bowl commercial for 2013 "Prom," and it shows how driving an Audi can bring the confidence to turn going solo to prom into a night to remember. The clip features the new single "Can't Win 'Em All" by singer-songwriter Hanni El khatib. The Palestinian-Filipino musician has had his music featured in a wide range of commercials from Nike to Nissan.
Beck's Sapphire - Chet Faker "No Diggity"
"No Diggity" is a Grammy Award winning classic. The original version recorded by Blackstreet went all the way to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1996. As the soundtrack to this short, elegant commercial for Beck's Sapphire, Australian electronica artist Chet Faker has reinterpreted the song to make it elegant cocktail music. He was one of the most acclaimed new artists in Australia last year.
Budweiser - Fleetwood Mac "Landslide"
The tearjerker commercial of the year is this Budweiser advertisement that follows one of the company's trademark Clydesdale horses in an unlikely reunion with his original owner. Providing the musical background is Fleetwood Mac's classic "Landslide." Its words of growing older fit well with the mood of this commercial. The song first appeared on Fleetwood Mac's US breakthrough self-titled album in 1975.
E Trade - Calvin Harris "Drinking From the Bottle" featuring Tinie Tempah
The beloved E Trade talking baby shows us all how to blow a lot of money if we are so inclined. The commercial needs a party song and gets it from Calvin Harris' "Drinking From the Bottle" which features vocals from British rapper Tinie Tempah. The song hit the top 5 on the UK pop single chart but has not been promoted as a single here. It is included on the album 18 Months.
Hyundai - The Flaming Lips "Sun Blows Up Today"
Alternative rock legends The Flaming Lips show us all how to have fun. This commercial promotes Hyundai but also serves to give exposure to the band's new single "Sun Blows Up Today." It is the first song released from the upcoming album The Terror which is set to hit stores April 2, 2013.
Hyundai - Quiet Riot "Metal Health (Bang Your Head)"
A different Hyundai commercial is a humorous depiction of childhood revenge. The song included here is by heavy metal legends Quiet Riot. The song "Metal Health (Bang Your Head)" is the group's only top 40 hit single outside of the smash "Cum On Feel the Noize."
Mercedes-Benz - Rolling Stones "Sympathy For the Devil"
One of the most elaborate of this year's Super Bowl commercials is this star studded clip. It includes Willem Dafoe, Usher, and Kate Upton. The plot centers around a potential deal with the devil. Appropriately enough, the music is the Rolling Stones' classic "Sympathy For the Devil" which first appeared on the 1968 album Beggars Banquet.
Taco Bell - fun "We Are Young" in Spanish
The breakout song hit from last year's Super Bowl commercials was fun's mega-smash "We Are Young." This year Taco Bell helps us all remember the hit by including a new Spanish language recording of the song with humorous depictions of older adults behaving like they are young. This is a laugh out loud commercial.
Toyota - Skee-Lo "I Wish"
Toyota brings us a Super Bowl commercial about a genie making wishes come true, whether clever or absurd. The gold certified 1995 single "I Wish" by L.A. based rapper Skee-Lo provides the soundtrack for the clip.
Volkswagen - Jimmy Cliff - "C'mon Get Happy"
As is often the case, one of the top feel good commercials for Super Bowl 2013 comes from Volkswagen. This clip features legendary rapper Jimmy Cliff leading a singalong to the song "C'mon Get Happy" which is most memorable as the theme song for the early 1970s sitcom classic The Partridge Family.
