Glee Songs Report Card - Season 3, Episode 4

During episode 4 of Glee's season 3, Irish exchange student Rory Flanagan appears, and Brittany thinks he's a leprechaun who can grant wishes. Shelby Corcoran gets new recruits for her all-girl show choir, and Sue Sylvester faces an unexpected challenge in her race for congress.

1. "Bein' Green"

Irish exchange student Rory Flanagan sings "Bein' Green" about his Irish heritage and Brittany's notions that he must be a leprechaun. The song was originally written for the first season of Sesame Street in 1970. It was sung by Kermit the Frog. "Bein' Green" is seen as a celebration of diversity. It was sung by Big Bird in 1990 at memorial services for Muppet creator Jim Henson.

2. "Candyman"

"Candyman" is the first performance by the all-girl show choir put together by Shelby Corcoran. The lead trio features Mercedes, Brittany, and Santana. "Candyman" first appeared on Christina Aguilera's album Back To Basics. It received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal and hit the top 25 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Candyman" was heavily influenced by the Andrews Sisters' classic "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy."

3. "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)"

Blaine Anderson makes an effort to cheer up the glee club by performing Katy Perry's hit "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" The song was the fifth #1 pop hit from her album Teenage Dream. Dr. Luke and Max Martin co-wrote and co-produced the song. Katy Perry's accompanying music video, a takeoff on 80s teen movies, received strong positive acclaim.

4. "Take Care Of Yourself"

Irish exchange student Rory Flanagan sang Teddy Thompson's "Take Care Of Yourself" to show the quality of his singing. Singer-songwriter Teddy Thompson is the son of folk rock legends Richard and Linda Thompson. "Take Care Of Yourself" is included on his album Bella which was released earlier this year. Bella reached the top 10 on the US Heatseekers chart and the top 50 of the UK album chart.

5. "Waiting For a Girl Like You"

Puck sings the Foreigner classic "Waiting For a Girl Like You." The song set a notable chart record of the most weeks at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 without hitting #1. The 1981 release spent a phenomenal 10 weeks at #2, most of it behind Olivia Newton-John's "Physical." "Waiting For a Girl Like You" is one of Foreigner's three biggest hit singles.
