During episode 7 of Glee's season 3 Rachel tries to fix the student council election, Santana comes out to her family, and Kurt's father is elected to congress.
1. "Perfect"
Kurt and Blaine decide to attempt to cheer up Santana over her recent outing. The song they have chosen is a "clean" version of Pink's hit single "F**kin' Perfect" that is now titled simply "Perfect." It seems to do the trick and Santana is smiling by the time the song is over. The original version of "F**kin' Perfect" peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year.
2. "I'm the Only One"
Puck is involved in an intense romantic triangle between teacher Shelby Corcoran, who is raising his child, and Quinn Fabray, the mother of the child. He lets out swirling emotion performing "I'm the Only One." The original version of the song was recorded by Melissa Etheridge and released in 1993. It became her only top 10 pop hit single. "I'm the Only One" received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Song.
3. "Girls Just Want To Have Fun"
The boys of New Directions, led by Finn, delivered the most interesting vocal arrangement of the I Kissed a Girl episode. They slowed down Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" adding new resonance to the lyrics. This arrangement of the song was first recorded by Greg Laswell in 2007. "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" was first written and recorded by Robert Hazard in 1979 before Cyndi Lauper recorded it for her debut album. It hit #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1983 and was nominated for Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards.
4. "Jolene"
Embroiled in a battle for the affections of Cooter Menkins with Sue Sylvester, Coach Beiste sings for only the second time so far on Glee. She sings Dolly Parton's classic "Jolene." The song is written about a housewife's efforts to keep her husband from being stolen away by a more attractive woman. Dolly Parton hit #1 on the country chart in 1973 with the song. Rolling Stone has listed it as one of the 500 greatest songs of all time.
5. "I Kissed a Girl"
With intense emotion swirling around Santana's coming out, the girls of New Directions delivered an impassioned version of Katy Perry's breakthrough hit "I Kissed a Girl." Katy Perry hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks in the summer of 2008 with the song. She received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal for "I Kissed a Girl," and the single has sold over four million copies.
6. "Constant Craving"
The song "Constant Craving" was used to sum up the swirling emotion of the I Kissed a Girl episode. It is sung primarily by Santana and Shelby, but Kurt chimes in near the end. "Constant Craving," recorded and released in 1992, became k.d. lang's only top 40 pop hit in the US. It went to #2 on the adult contemporary chart. k.d. lang won a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal with "Constant Craving." It was also nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
