Maroon 5's poppy lead off to their upcoming album Overexposed heads this week's phenomenal list of great new pop songs.
1. Maroon 5 - "Payphone" featuring Wiz Khalifa
Maroon 5 continue to utilize the success of lead vocalist on the TV show The Voice to help rebuilt their commercial base. "Payphone" is an endearing pop-friendly breakup song. The song instantly went to #1 in sales at iTunes.
2. Nelly Furtado - "Big Hoops (The Bigger The Better)"
Nelly Furtado returns with the first single from The Spirit Indestructible, her first English language studio album in six years. Her last album Loose hit #1, was certified platinum, and included three top 20 pop hit singles. The new single is club ready dance pop.
3. Adam Lambert - "Never Close Our Eyes"
Adam Lambert formally introduces his upcoming album Trespassing with this single. It includes songwriting from Bruno Mars and production from Dr. Luke. The uptempo dance mix shows off the power in Adam Lambert's vocals.
4. Glen Hansard - "Love Don't Leave Me Waiting"
Irish musician Glen Hansard is primary songwriter and lead vocalist for the rock group the Frames as well as one half of the duo the Swell Season. He won an Academy Award in 2007 for the song "Falling Slowly" co-written with Marketa Irglova. Now he is stepping forward as a solo artist on this heartfelt single.
5. Kevin Rudolf - "Don't Give Up"
Kevin Rudolf is unusual in his ability to have strong success both as producer for other artits (Selena Gomez and the Scene's "Round and Round" and Cobra Starship's "Good Girls Go Bad" to name two) and an artist in his own right with the #5 smash hit "Let It Rock." The inspirational "Don't Give Up" is his latest effort as lead artist.
6. Linkin Park - "Burn It Down"
Linkin Park return with their trademark fusion of rock and hip hop on the single "Burn It Down." It is the first release from the upcoming album Living Things due in stores June 26, 2012. The band worked once again with producer Rick Rubin.
7. Jukebox the Ghost - "Somebody"
Indie pop band Jukebox the Ghost have generated significant buzz through the release of their first two albums. "Somebody" is the first single from the upcoming third album Safe Travels which is due in stores June 12, 2012.
8. The Wanted - "Chasing the Sun"
"Chasing the Sun" is one of two new, previously unreleased songs from The Wanted's upcoming debut US EP hitting stores next week April 24, 2012. They debuted the song in a live performance on The Voice this week. The boy band has a tall order to follow up the #3 smash hit single "Glad You Came." "Chasing the Sun" is very similar upbeat dance pop.
9. Soundgarden - "Live To Rise"
Legendary grunge band Soundgarden are back with their first entirely new music in over 15 years. "Live To Rise" will be included on the soundtrack from the upcoming superhero film The Avengers. "Live To Rise" is already a top 20 hit at alternative songs and rock songs radio. Soundgarden's 1994 album Superunknown hit #1 and was certified five times platinum.
10. B.o.B. - "So Hard To Breathe"
"So Hard To Breathe" is another promotional single from B.o.B.'s upcoming album Strange Clouds due in stores May 1, 2012. This time he is working with producer Alex da Kid. B.o.B.'s first album The Adventures Of Bobby Ray hit #1 and included three top 10 pop hit singles.
