Top 10 New Pop Songs February 19, 2013


One Direction lead the way this week among pop releases with their cover of classic punk songs.

1. One Direction - "One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks)"

Boy band One Direction have put together one of their best singles yet as an official Comic Relief charity single. It is a combination of Blondie's punk classic "One Way Or Another" from 1979 and the UK's the Undertones' 1978 punk classic "Teenage Kicks." The song instantly landed at the top of the iTunes digital sales list around the world. It was performed live by One Direction this week at the Brit Awards.

2. Phoenix - "Entertainment"

Acclaimed French alternative pop band Phoenix return with the first song from their upcoming fifth studio album Bankrupt! The group topped the US alternative songs chart with the song "1901" from their most recent album, the gold certified Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. The new single is an upbeat return for the group.


3. The Goo Goo Dolls - "Rebel Beat"

Rock band the Goo Goo Dolls are readying their tenth studio album Magnetic to be released in May. "Rebel Beat" is the first single. It is an upbeat track that instantly landed on the adult pop radio chart. Goo Goo Dolls have reached the top 10 of the adult pop chart 14 times. The band's last three studio albums have all reached the top 10 on the album chart.


4. Shout Out Louds - "Walking In Your Footsteps"

The Shout Out Louds are a Swedish indie rock band. Their most recent album Work edged onto the US album chart at #200. Music by the group has been included on the soundtracks for a wide range of TV shows.

5. Marques Houston - "Speechless"

Marques Houston first came to fame as a member of the R&B vocal group Immature. He is also a successful actor appearing on the TV show Sister, Sister. The upcoming album Famous will be Marques Houston's sixth solo collection. "Speechless" is a virtuoso vocal performance.

6. Johnny Marr - "Upstarts"

Johnny Marr was a guitarist and co-songwriter with Morrissey in the Smiths from 1983-1987. He has formed the dance music supergroup the Electronic with Bernard Sumner of New Order. "Upstarts" is a single from Johnny Marr's upcoming debut solo album The Messenger.

7. Mariah Carey - "Almost Home"

Mariah Carey's new single is taken from the soundtrack of the upcoming movie Oz the Great and Powerful. It is a return to the sound of her classic pop records. The new record was co-produced by Stargate.


8. Nelly - "Hey Porsche"

Rapper Nelly was one of the most successful recording artists of the past decade. He has 10 top 10 pop hit singles. All six of his previous studio albums have reached the top 10 on the album chart and four of them are certified platinum. "Hey Porsche" is the first single from the upcoming album M.O. that is expected later this year.


9. Kate Nash - "3 AM"

UK singer-songwriter Kate Nash broke into the US album chart with her debut release Made Of Bricks. She is now readying her third solo album Girl Talk for release in March. "3 AM" is her first single release from the project.

10. The Strokes - "All the Time"

New York rock band the Strokes are given significant credit for having revitalized the genre of garage rock. Their last three studio albums have all hit #4 on the album chart. The Strokes have reached the top 40 on the alternative songs chart 11 times. "All the Time" is the lead single from the upcoming album Comedown Machine.
