Top 10 New Pop Songs January 14, 2014

Shakira returns to lead us into the new year.  She collaborates with another of the world's biggest pop stars Rihanna to a ska influenced beat.  It is only the first of a great set of new pop songs released this week.

It has been over four years since the last English language album from Latin superstar Shakira.  She returns collaborating with another of the world's biggest pop stars Rihanna.  Four of her last five studio albums reached the top 10 in the US.  However, she has not reached the top 10 on the pop singles chart in the US since 2007.

"Can't Remember To Forget You" had a strong opening week at pop radio.  It is already a top 40 hit at mainstream pop.  The song also climbed into the top 10 on the iTunes sales chart.

Foster the People blasted into the pop mainstream in 2011 with their debut single "Pumped Up Kicks," considered by many to be one of the top singles of the year.  It climbed to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.  The single's success helped their debut album Torches climb into the top 10 and be certified gold for sales.

"Coming Of Age" is the first single from the upcoming album Supermodel due in stores in March.  The song was co-written and co-produced by Paul Epworth who worked with Adele on "Rolling In the Deep."  It has a big, spacious alternative pop sound.

Alternative pop band Neon Trees are best known for two slow climbing singles that eventually became major chart hits.  The first was "Animals" released in 2009 with a retro new wave sound.  It was followed by top 10 pop hit "Everybody Talks" released in 2011.

"Sleeping With a Friend" is the first single from the upcoming third studio album Pop Psychology.  It has a gently rocking adult pop feel.

Young & Sick is both an electronic music project and an art project.  Young & Sick have designed artwork for album covers by Maroon 5, Robin Thicke, and Foster the People.  They have also worked on fashion designs.

The sound of "Magnolia" is blissful, airy pop that echoes the softer side of 1970s pop while drifting on a bed of pleasing, contemporary electronic keyboards.

5. Eric Church - "Give Me Back My Hometown"

Country superstar Eric Church topped the album chart with his last studio release Chief.  His 2012 country hit single "Springsteen" crossed over into pop territory and peaked at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 while selling over two million copies.

"Give Me Back My Hometown" is a melancholy song that has strong crossover appeal.  It has a powerful percussive production that will appeal to a wide range of rock and adult pop fans. It is the second single release from the upcoming album The Outsiders.
