Alanis Morissette returns in a happy mood on her latest single to lead this week's list of top new pop songs.
1. Alanis Morissette - "Guardian"
It has been nearly four years since Alanis Morissette's most recent album Flavors Of Entanglement. Since that time she has married and had a baby. Now she returns with an upbeat song that is still filled with her inimitable lyrical style. The full-length album Havoc and Bright Lights is expected August 28, 2012.
2. K'Naan - "Hurt Me Tomorrow"
K'Naan made his way on to mainstream top 40 radio in the US earlier this year with the Nelly Furtado collaboration "Is Anybody Out There." Now he is back with a solo single that will be included on the upcoming album Country, God, Or the Girl.
3. The Tallest Man On Earth - "1904"
Close your eyes when you listen to Swedish singer-songwriter Kristian Mattson, aka The Tallest Man On Earth, and you may be convinced you are listening to Bob Dylan. His most recent album The Wild Hunt broke into the UK album chart and was listed by Pitchfork Media as one of the top 50 albums of 2010. "1904" will be included on the upcoming album There's No Leaving Now.
4. Shawn Colvin - "All Fall Down"
Singer-songwriter Shawn Colvin is a winner of three Grammy Awards including 1998 Record and Song of the Year for her top 10 pop hit "Sunny Came Home." She has been nominated seven more times. The album All Fall Down will be released June 5, 2012 and is her first studio album in six years. The single "All Fall Down" is classic Shawn Colvin.
5. Crocodiles - "Endless Flowers"
Indie pop band Crocodiles will release their third studio album Endless Flowers later this year. The title song owes a debt to the post punk sounds of the early 1980s. Both previous albums have received strong critical acclaim.
6. Matisyahu - "Sunshine"
Back in December Matisyahu shocked fans when he shaved off his beard and announced new directions in his life. This new single version of his upbeat song "Sunshine" will be included on the album Spark Seeker expected in stores July 17, 2012. The song veers away from strict reggae to incorporate pop elements into Matisyahu's sound.
7. Kenny Lattimore - "Find a Way"
Kenny Lattimore's vocal style is classic R&B. His first, self-titled solo album was released in 1996 and included the Grammy nominated single "For You." He reached his commercial peak thus far as part of a duo with Chante Moore. Their 2003 album Things That Lovers Do reached #3 on the R&b album chart. "Find a Way" is his first single on his own label SincereSoul and will be included on the upcoming album Back 2 Cool.
8. Everclear - "Be Careful What You Ask For"
Everclear are celebrating 20 years as a rock band. Everclear's most recent album Welcome To the Drama Club was released over five years ago. The new upbeat single "Be Careful What You Ask For" will be included on the album Invisible Stars.
9. Scissor Sisters - "Only the Horses"
Scissor Sisters return with a single that is pure dance pop. Their last two studio albums both reached the top 20 in the US. The song was co-produced by hot dance music producer and artist Calvin Harris. The full-length album Magic Hour is due in stores May 28, 2012.
10. Walk Off the Earth - "Polly"
Canadian band Walk Off the earth caused a sensation earlier this year with their acoustic version of Gotye's hit "Somebody That I Used To Know" played on a single guitar. Now they are attempting to capitalize on the attention by putting together a third studio album due this fall. "Polly" is the first single from the project.
