There are no superstar releases this week, so it is a good week to dig deeper into lesser known artists. The new albums in stores are led by the debut from rising indie pop band Atlas Genius.
Atlas Genius are an indie pop band from Australia. The group's debut single "Trojans" received strong support from MTV and music blogs. It has climbed to #4 on the alternative songs chart. Warner Bros. signed the group in 2012 and released the EP Through the Glass. When It Was Now is the band's first full length album.
2. R5 - Loud EP
R5 are a band composed of actor Ross Lynch from the Disney channel show Austin and Ally, three of his siblings and drummer Ellington Ratliff. Group member Riker Lynch has appeared on Glee in a recurring role as one of the Warblers. The band self-released their first EP Ready Set Rock in 2010. Hollywood Records signed R5 in 2012, and Loud is their first EP for the label.
Hard rock band Buckcherry reached their commercial peak when the single "Sorry" climbed into the mainstream pop top 10 in 2008. It helped the album 15 be certified platinum. Follwing that success, the band's last two albums both reached the top 10 on the album chart. Confessions includes the current top 30 rock hit single "Gluttony."
Australian Nick Cave formed Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds after the group The Birthday Party disbanded in the 1980s. They have been mainstays of alternative rock since the release of the band's first album From Her To Eternity in 1984. While Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds have reached the top 10 of the Australian album chart with their last seven releases, they broke into the upper half of the US album chart for the first time with their most recent album Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! in 2008.
Iceage are a punk band hailing from Denmark. Their sound is an energetic descendent of classic goth and post-punk music. You're Nothing is the second full-length album from the group.
Jamie Lidell is an English soul singer and electronic music producer who is based in Nashville, Tennessee. His album Jim won an Independent Music Award for Best Pop/Rock Album in 2009. The new self-titled album draws inspiration from classic 1980s soul and dance music.
Indie rock band Beach Fossils came together in 2009. They are known for having a fluid lineup. The group has gained exposure through music blogs and live shows in their native Brooklyh. Clash the Truth is the second full-length album from the band.
Drew Holcomb and his band the Neighbors play an upbeat brand of alternative rock and folk. Their most recent album, 2011's Chasing Someday, was their first to break into the national album chart. It was a top 10 hit folk album. Good Light is Drew Holcomb's eighth album.
In 2006 the independent label Anti put together a two disc collection of sea shanties and pirate songs recorded by a wide range of artists including Sting, Bono, Richard Thompson, Rufus Wainwright, Lou Reed and more. Actor Johnny Depp was a primary source of inspiration for the project and served as an executive producer. The collection was well received and Son Of Rogues Gallery is a follow up. Contributing artists this time include Tom Waits, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, and Broken Social Scene.
