A career-spanning greatest hits collection from Jennifer Lopez leads this week's new pop albums.
1. Jennifer Lopez - Dance Again...The Hits
It has been a big year for Jennifer Lopez. Now she is wrapping together her hit songs in the first career-spanning greatest hits collection. The songs range from her debut #1 pop smash "If You Had My Love" through this year's "Dance Again."
2. Passion Pit - Gossamer
Gossamer is the major label debut from critically acclaimed alternative band Passion Pit. The band plays shimmering electropop. Gossamer includes the top 20 alternative songs chart single "Take a Walk."
3. The Gaslight Anthem - Handwritten
Rock band The Gaslight Anthem broke into the top 20 with their last album, 2010's American Slang. The band has stated that Handwritten is a return to the sound of their earlier The '59 Sound collection. The single "45" has reached #16 on the alternative songs chart.
4. Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows
Tomorrow Never Knows is a new Beatles collection, and an iTunes exclusive, intended to bring together some of the group's most influential rock songs. The tracks range from the #1 pop smash "Paperback Writer" to lesser known album cuts like "Hey Bulldog" and "Savoy Truffle."
5. Ryan Beatty - Because Of You
Teenager Ryan Beatty first gained attention through YouTube. Because Of You is his debut EP. He was nominated this year at the Teen Choice Awards in the Choice Web Star category. His videos have gained more than 30 million views on YouTube.
6. Purity Ring - Shrines
The electronic band Purity Ring first came together in 2010. Their debut album is one of the most eagerly awaited alternative releases of the year. It is being released on the label 4AD.
7. Rodriguez - Searching For Sugar Man Soundtrack
Singer-songwriter Rodriguez released two albums in the early 1970s titled Cold Fact and Coming From Reality. They did not sell well in the US, but surprisingly became hits in South Africa and Australia. Rodriguez himself did not know about the international success. Finally in 1979 he went on tour in Australia and then retired after more touring in 1981. Rodriguez did not know about his South African success until 1998 when his daughter found a website dedicated to him. Searching For Sugar Man is a documentary about the efforts of two fans to find out whether Rodriguez is still alive and what has become of him.
8. The Black Cards - Use Your Disillusion
The Black Cards are a DJ duo featuring former Fall Out Boy member Pete Wentz. The EP Use Your Disillusion is the first official major label release.
9. Love and Theft - Love and Theft
Love and Theft are a country duo that broke into the top 10 of the country album chart with their 2009 debut World Wide Open. Their top 5 country smash hit song "Angel Eyes" is the first single from this second, self-titled album.
10. Fang Island - Major
Indie rock band Fang Island released their self-titled debut in 2010. It climbed to #27 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. They made acclaimed appearances at this year's SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas.
