Former American Idol contestant Adam Lambert leads off this week's list with his second post-Idol studio album aiming to reach #1 on the album chart.
1. Adam Lambert - Trespassing
Adam Lambert finished second on American Idol's season 8 in 2009. However, he embarked on a recording career with a very strong core group of fans. The result was a #3 debut for his album For Your Entertainment in the fall of 2009 and a gold certification. It included the top 10 pop hit single "Whataya Want From Me." Now he is back with his next collection. Trespassing was executive produced by Adam Lambert and included his songwriting contributions on a number of tracks. The album features the top 20 adult pop single "Better Than I Know Myself."
2. Glee - The Graduation Album
The Graduation Album is the first full-length Glee album released since last December. Overall the show has generated 13 top 10 hits on the album chart. Three of those have gone all the way to #1. The album includes songs from the graduation episode of the show as well as songs from other season 3 episodes.
3. Garbage - Not Your Kind Of People
The alternative rock band Garbage have not released a new studio album since 2005. That album Bleed Like Me was their first to reach the top 10 of the album chart reaching #4. Garbage have reached the top 10 on the alternative songs chart five times. Their biggest pop hit single is "Stupid Girl" which peaked at #24. Not Your Kind Of People includes the top 20 alternative songs hit "Blood For Poppies."
4. Best Coast - The Only Place
Best Coast's last album Crazy For You was one of the most critically acclaimed releases of 2010. It ranked here as one of the top 10 albums of the year. Their follow up The Only Place finds the band revisiting their indie surf pop sound.
5. Beach House - Bloom
Critically acclaimed "dream pop" band Beach House reached the top 50 of the album chart with their 2010 release Teen Dream. The new album Bloom is already receiving strong critical reviews. It is looking to be the highest charting album by the group yet.
6. Owl City - Shooting Star EP
Owl City, a recording project by singer-songwriter Adam Young, came out of seemingly nowhere with the #1 pop hit single "Fireflies" in 2009. A follow up album All Things Bright and Beautiful reached #6 on the album chart but failed to generate any significant hit singles. The new EP includes four songs and guest vocals from Blink-182's Mark Hoppus on the song "Dementia." A full-length Owl City album is expected in the summer of 2012.
7. Lisa Marie Presley - Storm and Grace
Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of the legendary Elvis Presley, reached the top 10 on the album chart with her first two albums. However, it is has been seven years since her last release. The new album was produced by T-Bone Burnett. The folk Americana style of music is a major shift from the previous releases.
8. Rye Rye - Go! Pop! Bang!
Rye Rye is a protege of singer M.I.A. Go! Pop! Bang! is her first full-length album. It includes the top 10 dance hit single "Boom Boom."
9. Tenacious D - Rize Of the Fenix
Tenacious D is a comedy-rock duo of actor Jack Black and Kyle Gass. Their most recent album, 2006's The Pick Of Destiny, was a top 10 hit. Their were hints that would be the act's last album, but they have now returned with Rise Of the Fenix. Jack Black has said the album includes songs about love, sex, and food.
10. Willie Nelson - Heroes
Legendary country singer Willie Nelson recently celebrated his 79th birthday. His 2010 album Country Music was a top 5 hit on the country albums chart and received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Americana Album. Heroes is the first album from Willie Nelson under a new contract with Sony. Among the guest artists are Snoop Dogg, Sheryl Crow, Kris Kristofferson, and Merle Haggard.
