What is the focus of your pop music blog?
I like to write about producers because I believe they are the ones really driving the sound of music. I think that 90% of artists are replaceable.
What do you cover? Opinions, News, Reviews?
I focus primarily on reviews, but am hoping to share my opinion on the state of music more often. Radio and the industry itself is constantly evolving; there's always some larger topic that can be addressed.
What was your inspiration for writing about pop music?
One day I realized three of my favorite songs (at that time) were all produced by the same person: Timbaland. He had worked on Aaliyah's Are You That Somebody, Ginuwine's What's So Different, and Missy's Hot Boys. I promptly went out and bought every cd Timbaland had ever graced and have been an avid producer-follower since.
My friends constantly come to me (and sometimes even quote me) for my opinions on songs and to find out what's new and good. That's why I started my blog.
How did you get started?
It's been a dream of mine for years to write music reviews. i figured even if I'm the only one reading it I might as well hone my writing skills! Plus, it forces me to research songs more closely and find the parallels between them and other songs.
Tips and Tricks
- Write when you're passionate. I hope to start writing more frequently, but so far have found that if I don't have a strong opinion about a song, artist, or producer, I'm just writing a bland review.
